Operating RTTY

The RTTY Interface of the FTDXRC Remote Control software supports the MMTTY Engine by JE3HHT.

MMTTY Engine

When operating remote, the MMTTY Engine needs to be installed on the Remote Base Server for one reason: it keys the transmitter through the PTT. The other reason is to be able to watch the XYScope over a Remote Desktop connection or TeamViewer session to tune to a signal. However, a local installation of MMTTY can be installed on your home client computer as well but the local installation cannot key your transmitter.

RTTY Window The MMTTY Engine can be opened and closed at any time. Squelch (SQ), Squelch Level and Bandpass Filter (BPF) can be controlled remotely. Set the Squelch Level by moving the slider in the Squelch Level bar.

The characters decoded by the MMTTY Engine (on the Remote Base Server) are sent to the FTDXRC client and shown in the RTTY RX window. Double-clicking on a received call sign in the RX window puts it into the call sign field of the log window to be able to log this contact. Double-clicking on a received name in a standard QSO puts it into the name field of the log.

The RX and TX buffers can be cleared by hitting the Clear RX or Clear TX buttons or by using the keyboard shortcuts Shift+Ctrl+A or Shift+Ctrl+B.

FTDXRC allows you to send RTTY with nine message buffers through function keys F1 to F9 or through a text buffer in the RTTY Window. Hit Enter to begin sending pre-typed text entered in the TX window. Use function key Alt+R to set the focus to the RTTY TX edit. Hit Escape to abort transmission at any time.

All other MMTTY settings need to be defined in the Setup of MMTTY (Mark, Space, Baud Rate, Soundcard, PTT etc.). We really recommend to use FSK anot AFSK with YAESU radios!

The nine RTTY Message buffers assigned to function keys F1 to F9 can be set in the Settings. The messages are displayed as hint as soon as you hold the mouse over the Message buttons.

RTTY Messages

The messages can also be changed at runtime through the corresponding Shift + function key, for example Shift+F1, Shift+F2.

Set RTTY Message

Message variables

These variables can be used in programming the RTTY messages using the function keys when you are using the Loging Window.

<MYCALL> sends my callsign as entered in the General Setup
<CALL> sends the callsign of the current QSO as entered in the Logging Window
<NAME> sends the name of the current QSO as entered in the Logging Window
<RST> sends the current QSO RST as entered in the Logging Window
<STX> sends current QSO Serial Number as entered in the Logging Window
<CR> sends a Carriage Return

Settings

To integrate the MMTTY Engine in FTDXRC Server on the on the Remote Base Server open the Settings > RTTY > MMTTY Engine.

Settings MMTTY Server

Choose the path to the MMTTY.exe installation and select other MMTTY options you like; there are four options available.

The home/client installation of FTDXRC allows to run a local installation of MMTTY mainly to be able to tune to a station using the MMTTY XYScope. The local MMTTY cannot and does not key your transmitter.
